2008 Newsletter
It seems a while since I wrote the last
newsletter. As I said at the last meeting we now have some more news. Any
news or events for the newsletter please e-mail me
at edwardkearton@talktalk.net
or phone 01289 306333. This Sunday 29 June it’s Bobby’s ride out. Meet at the Shell garage, North road for a 10.00 am departure. Phone Bobby for the route (305504). This weekend Baza is riding his Suzuki GSX 1400 from Lands End to John O’Groats in 24 hours to raise money for the Berwick chemotherapy unit. Scottish Six-Day Trial Report Eddie went to Fort William at the
beginning of May. I stayed Sunday to Thursday. The weather was sunny all
the time. Dougie Lampkin won the trial. Andy Minns completed the trial.
His photo is at the back of the newsletter. On the Tuesday I watched the trial in the morning. In the afternoon I rode north to Skye and went round the island. North of Portree there where beautiful bays and rocky scenery. The usual rain, mist or midges where not missed! May Bike Run Report There was a good turn out for Mandy’s run north. It was a cold day. They arrived home around 5 pm. A photo of the departure is attached. Quayside Show Report The show went well. Everyone who helped
did a great job. Thank you for helping. The weather stayed fine. It was
very wet on the Sunday when we took the three Triumphs back to Two Wheels.
Over 150 bikes went to the Quayside. There was a good turn out by
the public. Profit was slightly down on last year. Some expenses where
higher. So there may be some changes next year such as only one toilet.
More volunteers are needed for next year’s Quayside Show. Thank you
letters have been sent out to prize donators, sponsors of the dance and
Border Traffic for using their lorry. Aero presented a cheque on behalf of
the Hardie family. BARK was also presented with their cheque. Quayside Dance Report The party was well supported and
enjoyed. The band was excellent. The buffet was substantial. The £5
raffle tickets sold well. We raised around £1250 for the Berwick
Chemotherapy Unit. The
fund-raiser for the chemo unit, Sandra Evans will give a talk at the next
bike meeting (13 July). She has requested a photograph of members and
bikes outside the hospital when the cheque is presented. Date to be
confirmed. Ireland Trip Report The trip went very well. The overnight
stay in Troon was a success. The ferry crossing was calm both ways. The
run to Westport was uneventful. The accommodation was excellent. The pubs
where quiet. Large quantities of beer where consumed! It was then
on to Ramelton for the next two nights. One day there was some rain so
they took the bus to Letterkenny. There was also a ride out to Sligo. On
the return to Berwick heavy rain made the roads more dangerous. Photographs
of the Ireland trip on the club web site http://www.berwick.org.uk/bmc/
or google search Berwick bike club. Lands End to John O’Groats 28th
June 08 David Baza Darling and two of his mates
are raising money for the Berwick Chemotherapy unit. The 870+ miles are in
24 hours! Please sponsor him. Kelso Bikefest 12th and 13th
July (Sat & Sun) This year’s Bike fest has come round
again. The arrangements for camping are meet at the showground on Thursday
10th July at 6.30 pm to pitch tents. We have a plot next to
Dunbar bike club.
There will be the club’s BBQ to cook on. This year please take
your own food and drink. Marshals need to work for at least 4 hours per
day to receive a food voucher. Duties are likely to be given out at the
show.
Tom-bola prizes are needed for the club stall. Please donate a
prize to the Blenhelm or take to the show. Christmas Party 08 The club is planning this years
Christmas party. There are two options. The first choice was agreed as a
party night at Scemerston Rugby club. This cannot be booked because a date
is not available at the moment. The second choice was the golf club. This
has been provisionally booked for Saturday 13th December, more
details at the next meeting.
The Dunbar
Bike club Christmas dance and buffet is on Saturday 20th
December. Anyone interested in going should contact Robert. Bike Runs At the last meeting (29/06/08) we had a
good discussion on the ride outs. It was apparent some changes are needed.
A suitable distance appears to be around 150 miles with a 12.00 departure.
To make ride outs more popular we need set stopping points such as the café
at Rothbury. Riders can then travel at their own speed. It was agreed that
evening runs where to be tried again. On Sunday 6th
July there is an extra club ride out to Seahouses. Meet at the Blenhelm
for a 4.00 pm depart. Please arrive with a full tank of petrol. Monthly Runs Bobby Bell is the leader for this
months ride out. Meet at the Shell Garage at 10.00 am Sunday 29th
